Apart from these linguistic differences, however, the lists
of terms for kindred other than those for aï¬Åinals show a marked
similarity in the way in which different relatives are classed
together. The only notable difference is in the terms used
between a brother and sister. In Malua a single word is used
reciprocally, the only distinction being that for a sister, the
feminine suffix dovat is added. In Ten Marou a man calls his
sister by the common word e1/ii/nok, which has also the wider
