Little information has been left concerning the rights and
duties of relatives in Larnbumbu, but from what is recorded it
is clear that the patterns of behaviour between kin in this district
differ in some respects from those in the districts to the south.
The M othefs Brother
As in Seniang, the m0ther’s brother is important in
the early ceremonial life of his sister's son. He plays a
part at the latter’s birth ceremony, in return for which the
father makes him a gift of a pig; when the boy ï¬Årst enters
the Nimangki the mother’s brother brings him a pig to
present to the chiefs who attend this rite, when for the ï¬Årst time
the initiate eats at the men’s ï¬Åre. On the marriage of his sister's
daughter the uncle, as male representative of the mother's
1 nimomogh ="tl1e woman."

men â€ù (irom nï¬Åmur = "the man " ; and tie! = “ sacred “), and “ my sacred
